I’m David Deane, a follower of Jesus, husband, and father, and a speaker and writer helping people connect their biggest questions to the Christian story.
For fourteen years I worked in defence and aerospace, on Tactical Air Defence Radar and F-35A Joint Strike Fighter training; a career spent, in effect, identifying what’s really out there and how to respond to it. These days I do something not so different for the church: helping Christians think clearly about faith, doubt, culture, and the technologies reshaping how we live. I’m a speaker with Questioning Christianity, and I write and teach on apologetics, philosophy, and the questions the age of AI is forcing on all of us.
I grew up in rural New South Wales, surrounded by wide open spaces and small town life. I came to take my faith seriously at university, where I also met my wife, whose encouragement has shaped everything since. I hold a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Newcastle (awarded an Industry Scholarship), and for fourteen years worked as a government contractor in defence and aerospace, managing our Tactical Air Defence Radar Systems and the F-35A pilot training and systems support.
A growing passion for the gospel led me down a different path. I completed a Master of Christian Apologetics, majoring in the Philosophy of Religion, at Veritas International University, graduating summa cum laude, and further study at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics, where I received a Distinction.
Today I’m a speaker with Questioning Christianity, an Australian evangelism and apologetics ministry. My work spans evangelism and theological training, digital content, and speaking, fielding real questions at schools, universities, churches, and conferences. I host a short apologetics segment on Rhema FM 99.7, have worked with TalkAboutDoubts.com, The Gospel Coalition Australia, and have contributed to several books. I’m currently writing on the theology of technology and what artificial intelligence reveals about who we are. My wife and I, along with our children, live and fellowship in Newcastle.
