Is the Church ready for this?

AI has been a hot topic for a while now, especially since the launch of ChatGPT back in late 2022, and the rapid developments in generative AI ever since. Maybe it’s just the algorithm on my own social feeds (the irony!), but I’ve noticed a significant uptick in public commentary, speculation, and concern over the past few months.

And I think it’s justified.

From creative industries and education to warfare, elections and personal relations, the pace of change is dizzying. Governments are scrambling to legislate. Tech leaders are issuing warnings. Everyday people are wondering what’s coming next and whether they should be afraid.

More than ever, I think Christians need a robust theology of technology. Not a knee-jerk reaction. Not shallow optimism. But deep, biblical reflection on what it means to be human in an age of machines – and what’s really at stake. Because the real questions AI raises aren’t just technical. They’re theological. What is a person? What is intelligence? What is power? What makes a life valuable? These aren’t new questions – but they’re being asked in new ways, by new voices, with global consequences.

That’s why believers can’t afford to sit this one out. We need Christian thinkers shaping public ethics. Christian developers building with wisdom and restraint. Christian artists imagining better futures. Christian computer scientists asking different first questions.

AI isn’t just a mission field. It’s a discipleship frontier. And the Gospel has something to say here. Not just to ease anxiety—but to reframe it. Because at the end of the day, the deepest threat AI poses isn’t that it will become like us. It’s that we will forget who we are.

And so I’ve made another video. It’s not a tech explainer. It’s not a prophecy timeline. It’s a theologically grounded meditation on fear, personhood, power – and the hope of Jesus. I hope it disturbs you in the best way. And then anchors you in something deeper.
