In a week where the global headlines feel heavy, and where words like conflict, escalation, and uncertainty seem louder than usual… our church sang a new song today. An original my wife Julie and I have been working on called “Shalom.” We didn’t write it in response to a particular news cycle. We wrote it tracing the bigger story – from creation to exile, from Bethlehem to Calvary, from resurrection to the promised restoration of all things. But launching it today felt timely.
Biblical shalom isn’t just the absence of war. It’s not fragile stability. It’s not political calm. Shalom is wholeness. Shalom is peace with God. Shalom is the steady reign of Christ over chaos.
When the world feels noisy, Scripture reminds us that history is not spiralling – it is moving. And the One who spoke light into darkness still speaks.
Shalom

Verse 1
In the beginning, breath of God
You spoke the light into the dark
A garden formed by perfect love
Where every heart belonged to you
But we exchanged Your voice for dust
We hid our shame from open skies
Still You were faithful to Your word
As mercy moved toward broken lives
Pre-chorus
From Abraham to David’s throne
The promise carried through the years
You did not leave us on our own
You drew near and met us here
Chorus
Shalom, peace You spoke into the void
Shalom, hope our chaos can’t destroy
Shalom, You are making all things new
Jesus, all our shalom is found in You
Verse 2
Through every long and silent age
Through every exile, every fear
We asked, “How can we sing Your song
In lands where You seem far from here?”
And then You came, born in our dust
The Holy One in humble frame
You took our wandering and our war
And wore our sorrow bore our shame
Pre-chorus
From Bethlehem to Calvary
Your perfect promise persevered
You did not leave us in the grave
You broke through and met us here
Chorus
Shalom, peace You spoke into the void
Shalom, hope our chaos can’t destroy
Shalom, You are making all things new
Jesus, all our shalom is found in You
Bridge
Over the wounded, over the weary
You speak a word and still the storm
Over the doubting, over the grieving
You gather tears and draw us near
Over the nations, over the violence
You reign till Zion sings Your praise
Until the day all things are whole
We fix our eyes and trust in You
Chorus
Shalom, peace You spoke into the void
Shalom , hope our chaos can’t destroy
Shalom, You are making all things new
Jesus, all our shalom is found in You
